Sometimes dreams do come true, with a little help from friends!
One of my friends, Michelle, was on Facebook at midnight after I posted that I paid the registration fee for the Seize the Day Conference but didn’t have the funds yet for the rest of the trip. I asked my friends if they are considering purchasing some lockets as Christmas presents, please purchase them now at www.ginalabenz.origamiowl.com. It would help me raise the funds I need to attend this National Christian Conference to raise the C in ymCa. Michelle wrote on my post that I had a special package that needed to be picked up at the UPS Store on Friday...
Friday I was excited to go to the UPS Store on Dobson and Chandler Boulevard. When I went in Jimmy Silva and his sweet wife Michelle greeted me and asked me to come to the back of the store. Then they told me to sit down. Michelle handed me a purple gift bag. Inside it was a beautifully written letter about how they appreciated all that I do for the community. It ended with saying, “Please accept this random act of kindness from the bottom of our hearts so that others can be inspired by you. Remember, no one ever achieves their dreams alone. We can’t wait to see you blossom into all that you ever hoped for. God bless, Jimmy and Michelle.”
Then I pulled out a card that said a random act of kindness was being given to me. Then I pulled out a business card that said random act of kindness on one side and in Michelle’s handwriting on the back it said, “Dreams really do come true and yours can too.”
I looked up at their smiling faces as I pulled out a small box at the bottom of the bag. In it was 3 one hundred dollar bills! Michelle told me with tears in her eyes that she was on Facebook and first saw my post about the conference, “Should I stay or should I go?” and then instantly after I posted about taking a leap of faith to go, she cheered for me! She knew God was calling me to go and she looked up the price of airfare to fly to Florida and saw it would be $300 and decided to buy my plane ticket!
With joy in my heart, I gave them both a big hug for their super generous gift! Then I told them I read every morning, Today’s Touchstone by Charlene Costanza. Most days it is like having a cup of coffee with God and this is the message I imagine He would say to me. That Friday’s Touchstone had a quote about how no one is perfect and then asked us to do a random act of kindness.
I told Jimmy and Michelle that all morning long I was trying to think about what I could do as a random act of kindness and I had no idea that afternoon someone was going to do a HUGE random act of kindness for me! This was a shared anchor moment for us and I forwarded Today’s Touchstone to them.
I am so thankful to Jimmy and Michelle and all my friends and family who bought lockets or who picked me up at the airport or bought me dinner in Florida or supported me in any way so I could reach my goal and make it to this life changing conference. The journey to get there and all that took place while there has filled my heart with love and peace. I have a few more anchor moment stories to share from this journey. Stay tuned and remember that God loves all of us. Sometimes on your journey he sends you an angel, and sometimes he invites you to be an angel to someone else…
